Today is World Soil Day! Healthy soil yields healthy produce, which leads to healthy children. In Petrolina, Brazil, our Crescer Saudável (Growing Healthy) program is teaching preschoolers the joy of getting their hands dirty in the garden to grow nutritious vegetables for their school meals. Check out these photos of our latest project to create a garden reusing colorful recycled plastic bottles and old tires at the Hildete Lustosa School.
Crescer Saudável is a 3-year partnership with the Monsanto Fund to improve food security and nutrition for young children and their families. Our team in Brazil is planting vegetable gardens at 125 preschools, as well as providing nutrition education for children and resources for mothers, teachers, food preparers and local health professionals to help encourage long-term healthy eating habits. The program is expected to benefit more than 58,000 people in Petrolina, including 33,000 children ages 6 months to 5 years.
