We are grateful to Old Mutual for its support of INMED’s aquaponics project for the Pella Food Garden Cooperative in the desert region of Northern Cape, South Africa. At a recent site visit, our friends at Old Mutual were pleased with the co-op’s progress since their last visit in January. At that time, the new aquaponics system had not been installed, and there was basically nothing except a small plot of vegetables withering under the brutal sun. Since then, INMED has
installed a large commercial aquaponics system and has helped the co-op members develop a drip-irrigation garden under shade cloth using adaptive agriculture techniques. In just 6 months, the entire 2.5-hectare farm has started producing a wide variety of vegetables. The co-op has begun using a basic bookkeeping system, is selling their harvests and are starting to market their brand of high-quality, all natural, chemical-free and eco-friendly farmed produce. Just another example of how INMED aquaponics is changing lives around the world.
