UNEP Supporting INMED South Africa

Special thanks to Motsei and Anele of the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP), who met recently in Venda, South Africa with INMED South Africa’s Adaptive Agriculture Program Manager Khumbudzo “KG” Manyaga. UNEP is funding some age-related repairs on a commercial aquaponics system that INMED installed for the Thabelo Disabled Christian Association (recently changed to Mubvumoni Co-operative for the Disabled) in 2013.

With UNEP’s support, INMED is repairing the fish tank frames and shade net over the entire system, along with providing additional training and translation of training materials into Venda. INMED has worked in the disability sector in South Africa since 2012, delivering direct training and technical assistance in sustainable, climate-change adaptive agriculture, as well as substantial inputs to enable members of disabled persons’ cooperative groups in the Free State and Limpopo provinces to launch new income-generating enterprises.
