Thanksgiving Dinner: Learning, Laughter and Good Food

On November 22, 2011, participants from INMED Loudoun Programs’ educational groups gathered with their families and program staff to celebrate Thanksgiving. Special thanks to the Leesburg Police Department and Spanky’s Shenanigans who generously donated the food for the event.

Members of the Loudoun Programs staff summarized the evening’s events in the following account.

There was indeed much to be thankful for this Thanksgiving. The dinner was a wonderful celebration and also a time for learning, laughter, fellowship and good food.

Longtime supporters the Leesburg Police Department and Spanky’s Shenanigans provided a beautiful Thanksgiving dinner, complete with turkey, stuffing, mashed potatoes and green beans.

Maria-Elena Vasquez-Alvarez, director of Loudoun Programs, publicly thanked Leesburg Police Chief Joseph Price, who attended the dinner along with several of his officers, and expressed INMED’s deep gratitude for all they have done. In honor of their invaluable contribution to the community, Nery Hernandez, a participant of the educational groups, presented them with a framed collage of photos taken at the 2010 Thanksgiving and Christmas parties, which they had also supported. Although representatives from Spanky’s Shenanigans were not able to attend the dinner, they received a thank you letter and a similar framed collage.

To round off the evening, the children put their artistic talents to work on Thanksgiving arts and crafts, while their parents participated in a class as well as competitions and raffles that were thoroughly enjoyed.

A good time was had by all.
