INMED International Programs Director Kristin Callahan has been touring a variety of sites with our friends from Johnson & Johnson Global Health (J&J) in Peru, where we are facilitating mass deworming campaigns and hygiene and health education all over Peru—from the jungle to the mountains to the coast. Parasitic intestinal worms (also known as soil-transmitted helminths or STH) are a leading cause of malnutrition and anemia in children throughout the country. This little boy is learning about the importance of regular handwashing to prevent reinfection. With INMED’s and J&J’s support, Peru is on track to become the first endemic country in 70 years to eliminate STH as a public health problem.
