In partnership with the municipality of Nuevo Progreso, Johnson & Johnson, regional health agencies and others, INMED Andes last week celebrated the opening of a new maternity waiting home (casa de espera materna) in Chiclayo, Peru. Located in a high-poverty area, this new maternity waiting home will allow women from remote areas and those experiencing complications during the later stages of pregnancy to reside near well-equipped medical facilities. Trained community health workers staff these homes to monitor the pregnant residents and provide pre- and neonatal education and training to the mothers.
