INMED’s new Growing Healthy program in Petrolina, Brazil

Our team at INMED Brasil and volunteers from the Monsanto Fund spent time last week having fun with food with preschoolers in Petrolina, Brazil as part of INMED’s new Growing Healthy program. Launched last March, this 3-year health initiative is providing nutrition education for children and resources for mothers, teachers, food preparers and local health professionals to help encourage long-term, healthy eating habits—both in schools and at home. One of last week’s activities included a surprise box containing a fruit. The children were given clues about the color, size, texture and nutritional qualities for them to guess which fruit was inside. In the end, the students got to eat the fruit.

Growing Healthy, which is supported by the Monsanto Fund, is benefiting more than 58,000 people in Petrolina, including 33,000 children ages 6 months to 5 years.
