Healthy eating is a primary focus of INMED’s Health in Action program in South Africa. In partnership with Mondelēz International Foundation (MIF), INMED South Africa is promoting nutrition and healthy lifestyles in 116 schools throughout lower-income areas in Johannesburg and Port Elizabeth, reaching more than 100,000 students ages 6-12. In addition to physical activity and education, food preparer training and recreation days, INMED and MIF are improving nutrition and reducing hunger by increasing access to fresh produce through school, home and community gardens as well as the installation of a large aquaponic system in each project province to serve as a learning tool and source of abundant fresh produce and fish to supplement meals in targeted schools.
