Deworming Treatments and Preventive Education in Peru

Children and families are lining up for better health in the Main Square of San Fernando in the District of Manantay in Peru today! In partnership with regional health agency DIRESA and others, our team at INMED Andes is promoting deworming treatments and preventive education as part of this community wellness event—a follow-on to Peru’s 2nd National Deworming Day yesterday.

Soil-transmitted helminths (intestinal worms) are among the leading causes of malnutrition, anemia and developmental stunting in Peru’s children. INMED, in partnership with Johnson & Johnson, has played a key role in catalyzing the national deworming effort with the support of the country’s Ministries of Health, Education, Development and Social Inclusion, and Housing, Construction and Sanitation. Peru has a 5-year goal to become the first endemic country in 70 years to eliminate parasitic worms as a public health problem in children.
